Lemons have a multitude of properties and potential. In Greek mythology, lemons were the symbol of richness and love. They also say that if you wish to have sweet dreams place a dried lemon leave under your pillow. Lemons have been used in both cooking and household properties. Lemons give off natural oil from their peel and within there is a plethora of vitamins and minerals that help fit illness and bacteria. Lemons are sold either in non-recyclable netting or loose, so this is the first eco benefit but once they are used for the juice or zest the remains of the lemons can be used elsewhere. Lemons are a natural anti-bacterial and disinfectant which makes them an excellent cleaner. A homemade cleaner is a benefit to the environment as there are no toxins or chemicals just some natural and clean ingredients.

Surface cleaner
Add all used lemons into a jar, and now top up with distilled white vinegar. Seal the jar and keep it in a dark place for two weeks. After two weeks drain the mixture, and discard the lemons. Add some of the mixtures into a spray bottle and then top up with water. Shake to bind the mixture. Use on all surfaces.
Chopping board cleaner
If like me you have a wooden chopping board then cleaning this can be a pain. Place salt on the chopping board and use half a lemon. The lemon can be used or new. Rub the lemon into the salt once the whole board has been covered wipe with a clean cloth. Your board will now smell fresh and be disinfected.
Lemon remains after you used them they are still useful, the peel can be used for candy or flavoring oils. Lemon peels have a natural oil that gives the scent of lemon.
Lemon and rosemary-infused oil
In a jar add a few sprigs of rosemary and add your used lemons. Top up with olive oil, and seal the jar. Shake well to make sure this blends. Keep in a dark place for a week, then use.

Lemoncello
Take your lemons and peel them only taking the zest. Try not to get any of the white pulp. Once you have peeled all your lemons add them to a jar or bottle that you can seal. Add ½ cup of caster sugar and then top up with vodka. Seal the jar or bottle and shake well. Keep in a dark place for two weeks, shake every other day. Drain before serving.
